Short Track vs. Long Track: Key Differences
Both disciplines share the same core refrigeration technology, but the tracks are built to different specs. Short track rinks run about 365 ft (111.12m) in length, typically set up inside a standard hockey rink footprint. Long track speed skating rinks stretch to roughly 437 yards (400m) — a quarter-mile oval, requiring a much larger dedicated space. It's one of the most demanding sports on ice: skaters hit speeds up to 37 mph, holding that pace through tight turns without losing the line.
