Where can I install a portable ice rink?

Answer

Our portable (and even permanent) ice rinks are designed to be extremely versatile. They can be installed on a wide variety of level surfaces: concrete slabs, parking lots, tennis courts, streets, event plazas, or even beaches. For indoor installations, popular choices include exhibition halls, shopping centers, and large warehouses. We can assess your site and provide any leveling support needed.

What size should my ice rink be?

Answer

There's no one-size-fits-all solution, we design rinks to match your vision and available space. Typical layouts include 50' x 80' (around 4,000 sq. ft.), but we also build everything from small custom backyard rinks to regulation NHL (200' x 85') and IIHF (197' x 98') rinks. Our design team can help tailor the size to suit your event and expected foot traffic.

How many skaters can be on the ice at the same time?

Answer

As a rule of thumb, each skater needs about 20–25 square feet to move comfortably. For example, a 4,500 sq. ft. rink can host approximately 150 skaters at once. We can advise on layout flow and capacity for optimal safety and experience.

What does my event space need to operate a rink?

Answer

All you need is a level surface, access to electricity, and a water supply. If your site is uneven, we can install a platform to provide a stable base for the rink. Our team handles setup and breakdown with minimal disruption.

What kind of temperatures can the rinks operate in?

Answer

Industrial Frigo USA chillers are engineered to perform in a wide range of climates. Outdoor rinks operate efficiently even in temperatures above 80°F while covered or indoor systems can maintain ice quality at even higher ambient temperatures. Our units are optimized for extreme conditions, ensuring smooth operation regardless of location.

How do you manage humidity in an indoor ice rink?

Answer

Humidity control is one of the most overlooked parts of running an indoor rink — too much moisture in the air leads to fog, condensation, and a soft, uneven ice surface. Our systems are engineered to work alongside proper dehumidification, and our team factors humidity management into every indoor rink design from day one.

How much energy does an ice rink use?

Answer

Energy consumption depends on several factors: rink size, duration of use, and local climate conditions. On average, energy use ranges between 1–2 kWh per 10 sq. ft. per day. Our energy-efficient chiller systems help reduce operating costs while maintaining excellent ice performance.

What equipment and accessories are included?

Answer

Our turnkey packages come with everything needed to operate the rink smoothly: ice skates, resurfacing equipment, skate cabinets, and skate aids/tutors. Optional add-ons such as lighting, fencing, and festive decorations are also available.

How much staff do I need to run a rink?

Answer

Staffing depends on the size and scale of your event. At a minimum, you'll need team members for ticketing, skate distribution, ice supervision, and resurfacing/maintenance. We also offer training or turnkey management solutions if needed.
